I spent an entire Saturday showing a couple twelve properties. Twelve. We started at 9 AM and didn't finish until after 6 PM. I skipped lunch. My feet were destroyed. They seemed enthusiastic about at least three of them, taking videos, measuring rooms, discussing furniture placement. Monday morning, I get a text: "We've decided to pause our search because Mercury is in retrograde and our energy healer says it's not the right time to make major decisions." I responded professionally, said I understood, to reach out when they're ready. Three weeks later, I see them posting on Instagram about their new house. They'd gone to an open house the following Sunday, met the listing agent, and bought directly through her. When I ran into them at a coffee shop, the wife actually said, "Oh, you really helped us figure out what we wanted! You were like our practice round." Practice round. I was their unpaid real estate tutor while Mercury apparently sorted itself out just in time for someone else to collect the commission. I smiled and said congratulations while dying inside.
