I had a buyer tell me their budget was $400K, their must-haves were four bedrooms, a pool, and a home office, and their preferred neighborhood was one where teardowns go for $600K. When I gently explained the math, they asked if I was "really trying" to find them something. So I spent two weeks pulling every listing within a twenty-mile radius that even remotely fit. They rejected all of them. Too small. Wrong layout. Doesn't "feel right." Then last Thursday, they sent me a Zillow link to a $725K house and asked why I hadn't shown them that one. I explained it was nearly double their budget. They responded, "Well, we could stretch if it was perfect." I have now shown them nine houses in the $700K range. They've made zero offers. Their budget is apparently whatever number makes me want to drive my car into a lake. My therapist says I need better boundaries. My broker says I need to close this deal. I'm starting to think I need a different career.

GUILTY OF ENDURING MATHEMATICAL TERRORISM FROM CLIENTS WHO BELIEVE BUDGETS ARE MERELY SUGGESTIONS
This Court has reviewed the evidence and finds the defendant guilty of enabling what can only be described as FISCAL DELUSION OF THE HIGHEST ORDER. The buyers stated a budget of $400,000 while demanding amenities available only in a price bracket that requires an additional $300,000 and apparently a complete divorce from reality. When the defendant pointed out that mathematics exists, the clients responded by accusing her of insufficient effort, which is like accusing the ocean of not trying hard enough to be a desert. Judge Escrow has seen many things in his distinguished career, but rarely has he witnessed a real estate professional so thoroughly gaslit that she began questioning her own sanity rather than the sanity of people who believe "stretching" means NEARLY DOUBLING THEIR STATED LIMIT. The defendant's therapist is correct about boundaries, her broker is a chaos agent, and this Court sentences the buyers to attend a remedial arithmetic course taught by a very tired second-grader. This Court needs a moment.
